I understand how overwhelming it is to be partial to the political process. Consistently, there is information flying at everyone, and there are events that happen day-to-day that make daily news difficult to follow, and even harder to be up-to-date. I get it. Trust me.
But right now is not the time to ignore what is going on. There is unprecedented harm being done to the United States. I would like to start with one statement: Our PRESIDENT has called for the termination of our country’s constitution, and he was reelected. Our entire structure is based squarely on that Constitution. Our office holders take an oath of office to defend that Constitution.
I do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will faithfully execute the Office of President of the United States, and will to the best of my Ability, preserve, protect and defend the Constitution of the United States.
Oath of Office for Members of Congress:
I do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic; that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same; that I take this obligation freely, without any mental reservation or purpose of evasion; and that I will well and faithfully discharge the duties of the office on which I am about to enter. So help me God.
How can you, in good faith, refute the direct statement? It is on video. You can find it from any number of news sources, I’ve even inserted a video from FOX, against my better judgement. We can’t say that it didn’t happen. I have included the Presidential Oath of Office, as directly quoted from the Constitution. How is calling for the termination of our foundational record of the formation of our government preserving, protecting, or defending the Constitution?

H.R.1 – One Big Beautiful Bill Act
TITLE VII–COMMITTEE ON THE JUDICIARY
Part 2-Use of Funds Subtitle C (Sec. 70302) This section limits the ability of U.S. courts to enforce a citation for contempt for failure to comply with an injunction or temporary restraining order. Specifically, if no security was given when the injection or order was issued, the citation of contempt may not be enforced using appropriated funds. This limitation applies to injunctions or orders issued before, on, or after the date of enactment.
My second point is focused on one very specific portion of the “Big, Beautiful Bill” that has been underreported. We have a balance of powers in this country, outlined in Articles I, II, and III of the constitution. This was intended to ensure a particular branch of government could not wield more strength than the other. The Founding Fathers fled a king, they never intended to create one. They instilled power within the Courts and within our Congress, none of which should bow to another. The Courts do not have an intrinsic form of enforcement, they need to be able to enforce their rulings, and have time in which to rule. This tiny clause, in this massive should-be budget bill, neutralizes all past, present and future temporary restraining orders and preliminary injunctions, allowing the Trump administration to proceed with all due haste in taking apart our government piece by piece. Only five days ago, Reuters reported that there is a federal injunction standing between Trump’s executive order and the total elimination of the Department of Education with no safety net or plan in place for our school system. A US District Judge was discussing contempt charges before the Supreme Court vacated the temporary due to a jurisdictional issue, but still ruled “the immigrants must be given a chance to fight their removals before they are deported.” There are more, but my point is not the specifics, my point is the volume of defiance against the judicial branch.
My third reason I believe now is not the time for political apathy is because your rights as a person living in the United States, you being a citizen, are actively being threatened. Even withstanding discussing the leagues of people not receiving due process as immigrants, there are American citizens being detained, even with proper ID. Your right to healthcare is being challenged as funding is taken away by the “Big, Beautiful Bill,” cutting funding to rural health through Medicare/Medicaid cuts. Women, your right to making decisions about your own body were taken away by Supreme Court justices who were appointed due to their conservative views, overturning Roe V Wade, causing thirteen states’ trigger laws banning abortion to go into effect.
Fourth, the Social Security you pay into your entire life, and have every right to full payment of, is being drained to pay down taxes for people who have so many more resources than you do. The Social Security Administration itself released a report in August 2010 stating that, unless action is taken by 2020, the Disability Income Trust Fund and Old-Age and Survivors Insurance funds will be depleted by 2037. Yes, this report is from 2010. So let’s compare this to the 2024 report: Now, projections estimate the funds will be deleted by 2036. If you are my age, that means you are looking at 11 years until both trust funds are depleted, long before any of us will ever qualify for retirement benefits. This is a lot to digest, but here is an article discussing the extent to which the funding of Social Security is misunderstood by the general public. Do you truly so lack in humanity that you want your fellow citizens to suffer more, day in and day out, after working their entire lives, paying into the Social Security system, because our government continues to take money from it?
I feel like this is getting very long, but I just do not understand why you are apathetic. Are you not appalled that we are being represented by a man who has been accused of sexual assault by more than twenty women? Are you not appalled that the strongest person in the country, and maybe world, is a criminal, found guilty on 34 felony convictions?
I can’t sit back, I feel a drive to educate. I don’t care how you vote, I just want you involved and informed. The people who represent us as a nation are fully responsible for our success as a nation, and liable for many failures within our system. We need to hold these people accountable to US, “We The People“. We can’t be represented when a third of the country abstains from the process, and that is only referencing the last presidential election. YOU cannot be represented if you abstain from the process. Whatever you believe, even if it may go against every single thing I said above, that is your prerogative. BUT, if you do disagree with everything I said, you still deserve to have your voice heard, and the way our country speaks to its government is through voting- unless you also want to contact your representative, which I will always encourage!
Get your news from multiple sources. A great way to do that with very little effort is through Google News. It organizes multiple sources under one theme, a “central headline” in a way, and you can go through and compare multiple sources in one place. Alternatively, you can seek out news sources with high ratings of impartiality. AllSides rates biasy of different news sources, with easy to read charts. You can choose sources from across the spectrum to see differences in how certain events or policies are addressed.
Ignorance is bliss, but it still makes you ignorant. Don’t be ignorant and, I beg you, please don’t be apathetic.
